Configuring Workstations for NASI Dial-Out
Configuring Workstations for NASI Dial-Out
You must install a NASI stack on workstations that will dial out from the AWAN access
server. Workstation users will also need the appropriate terminal emulator or
telecommunications software, depending on the types of connections they will make.
Two software applications are provided with the AWAN access server for NASI dial-out:
•
Com Port to NASI Redirector for Windows
•
INT14 to NASI Redirector for DOS
Both the Com Port to NASI Redirector for Windows and the INT14 to NASI Redirector
for DOS enable you to establish dial-out connections using the AWAN access server.
The following are the major differences between the two applications:
•
The Com Port to NASI Redirector for Windows application only works with
Windows applications. It works with any communications software that supports the
standard serial communications ports (COM1, COM2, and so forth). It also provides
more flexibility than INT14 to NASI Redirector for DOS when using NASI.
•
The INT14 to NASI Redirector for DOS application can only be used in a DOS
environment. You should only use the INT14 to NASI Redirector for DOS when you
cannot use the Com Port to NASI Redirector.
Using Com Port to NASI Redirector for Windows
The Com Port to NASI Redirector for Windows application enables a PC connected to a
Novell NetWare network to redirect a serial communications port to a NASI service. If
you use the Com Port to NASI Redirector for Windows, your applications do not have to
support NASI. The application communicates with the communication port interface on
the user PC and then sends the information over the LAN to the modem associated with
the NASI service.
When you redirect a communications port to a NASI service, the Redirector maps the
port when the application first connects to the communications port. If you are using the
Com Port to NASI Redirector with the Windows Terminal program, you must manually
map a port to a server and remap each time you restart the terminal. If you are using the
Windows Terminal program, perform the following steps to redirect ports:
1. After clicking the Redirector application, choose Options/Map or double-click on
the port to be redirected.
2. Choose the port name to which you would like to connect. (If you do not know the
name of the server, contact your Network Administrator.) There are dial-out (DO)
and remote-control (RC) ports. Be sure to connect to the appropriate port.
3. Click MAP and then click OK.
4. Minimize the Com Port to NASI Redirector window. The Com Port to NASI
Redirector application must remain running. When you close the Redirector, the
communication ports will not be redirected.
Note. Installing the Com Port to NASI Redirector for Windows and INT14 to NASI Redirector
for DOS applications is described in Installing the Software Utilities on page 3-3.
