Configuring Modem Connections
This section describes how to configure modem port module (internal modem) ports and
asynchronous ports where external modems are connected.
Summary of Configuration Tasks
Configuring an internal or external modem involves a number of tasks. Table 12-1 lists
each task in the order in which it should be performed.
Finally, you should save and store your configuration changes as described in Saving a
Configuration File on page 5-27 and Storing a Configuration File on page 5-29.
Before You Begin
Before you configure an external modem, connect the modem to an asynchronous port
and power on the AWAN access server. If necessary, set the initialization string to the
following parameters (if available) for your modem:
Factory default
Disconnect on DTR loss
Asynchronous mode
Hardware flow control
Connecting devices to an AWAN access server is explained in the AWAN Access Server
Installation and Support Guide.
Table 12-1. Modem Configuration Tasks

Note: You do not need to perform this task for
internal modems.
2. Configuring Line Properties To configure the line speed, flow control, parity,
and other line properties.
3. Resetting the Port To reset the port after configuration changes
have been made.
