Updating the AWAN Access Server Firmware
Updating the AWAN Access Server Firmware
The AWAN access server firmware contains two types of software: the runtime code and
the boot code. You can download the most recent versions of the runtime and boot code
from the Access Beyond Web site, which is located at http://software.abeyond.com.
When the Product Development FTP server page is displayed, enter the PIN number
ccvhbg and then click the Continue button. The Welcome page lists the currently
available code releases.
Checking the Boot Code Version
To determine the version of the boot code used by your AWAN access server, perform
the following steps:
1. Connect a terminal or personal computer (PC) with a 6530 emulator program to the
console port on the AWAN access server. (The console port is located on the back of
models 3883-8, 3883-16, 3883-8R, and 3883-16R and under the front bezel on
models 3884, 3884R, 3885, and 3885R.)
2. Set the terminal to 9600 baud and 8N1 (8 bits, no parity, 1 stop bit).
3. Power cycle the AWAN access server.
The first message displayed on your terminal or PC screen is the boot code version.
Checking the Runtime Code Version
You can determine the runtime code version on your AWAN access server using an
asynchronous terminal connection, a Telnet connection, or the RAS Management Tool.
Note. You can also download the RAS Management Tool and software utilities software from
the Access Beyond Web site. Updating this software is described in Updating the AWAN
Access Server Software on page 14-36.
Note. Some older boot code versions do not generate the modem signals that are required by
some VT-series terminals, requiring you to adjust the terminal configuration or connecting
cables.
Note. Earlier releases do not display the bootcode version automatically. You must press the
Escape key (or Control [ on some keyboards) to display the bootcode version after the
following message is displayed on your terminal or PC screen:
Press ESC for Bootblock Diags within 5 seconds
