Updating the Boot Code
Updating the Boot Code
You can update the boot code on your AWAN access server using a PC running
ProComm Plus. You can use ProComm Plus or any terminal emulator that supports
ASCII downloads to perform the update. Do not use Outside View.
To update the boot code using a PC and a terminal emulator, perform the following
steps:
1. Connect the PC to the console port. (The console port is located on the back of
models 3883-8, 3883-8R, 3883-16, and 3883-16R and under the front bezel on
models 3884, 3884R, 3885, and 3885R.)
2. If the boot code file is on a floppy disk, copy the file to the hard drive on the PC.
3. Configure the terminal emulator as follows:
9600 baud, 8N1 (8 bits, no parity, 1 stop bit)
XON/XOFF flow control
ASCII upload protocol
Do not delete line feed characters
Do not append carriage return characters
No delays after each character or each line
4. Power on the AWAN access server.
The AWAN access server displays several startup messages, then prompts you as
follows:
Press ESC for bootblock diags...
5. Press the Esc key. If the Esc key is not pressed within 5 seconds, normal startup
continues.
6. The Bootblock Menu is displayed as shown in Figure 14-23
. The menu numbers
might vary for older boot code versions.
Note. On AWAN access servers running boot code earlier than V3.0.1C7 (models 3883-8,
3883-8R, 3883-16, and 3883-16R) or V3.0.2C5 (models 3884, 3884R, 3885, and 3885R), the
boot code must be replaced before performing any other firmware or software updates. Once
the AWAN access server is running boot code version V3.0.1C7, V3.0.2C5, or later, the
runtime code and software can be updated.
Note. Some keyboards require Control [ instead of the Esc key.
