Performing Bootblock Diagnostics
This subsection provides instructions for performing bootblock diagnostics for the
AWAN access server.
During the power-on sequence, the boot code learns the configuration of the chassis,
resets all devices, installs rudimentary input/output (I/O) services for diagnostics, tests
RAM and application flash memory, verifies the checksum of the nonvolatile
configuration flash memory, verifies the checksum of the application code image, and
then waits for five seconds for an Escape key at the console port before launching the
runtime environment.
Accessing the Bootblock Menu
To access the Bootblock Menu on an AWAN access server, perform the following steps:
1. Connect a personal computer (PC) running ProComm Plus to the console port. (The
console port is located on the back of AWAN access server models 3883-8, 3883-
8R, 3883-16, and 3883-16R and under the front bezel on models 3884, 3884R,
3885, and 3885R.)
2. Configure ProComm Plus as follows:
9600 baud, 8N1 (8 bits, no parity, 1 stop bit)
XON/XOFF flow control
ASCII upload protocol
Do not delete line feed characters
Do not append carriage return characters
No delays after each character or each line
3. Power on the AWAN access server.
The AWAN access server displays several startup messages, then prompts you as
