User Validation
Term Type Not 6530, Terminal Session
A prompt is displayed as follows:
login:
Type a valid user name at the prompt. (User name configuration is described in
Section 7, Configuring User and Port Access.)
Next, the following prompt is displayed:
password:
Type the password for the user name at the prompt. The password is not echoed to the
screen. If the login and password for user name are accepted, the login proceeds with
session protocol detection. If user validation fails, the login: prompt is repeated up to
two more times. After three failures, the port is logged out.
Term Type Not 6530, Remote Access Session
A sequence similar to that described in Term Type Not 6530, Terminal Session on
page C-7 is performed, but it is handled automatically—and usually transparently—by
the remote access client on the workstation.
Term Type 6530
The user name configured for the port is used for the Autoconnect feature. (A user name
may be configured for a port on the Adv. Line tab dialog box in the RAS Management
Tool or by using the Change Port Username command.) For RS-232 Asynchronous port
module ports, RS-232/20mA Current Loop port module ports, and for all model 3883
ports, the port user name is set to GUEST at factory configuration reset time. For
modem port modules, the port user name is set to blank.
When port user name is blank, login proceeds as described for Term Type Not 6530,
Terminal Session on page C-7 beginning at the login: prompt.
When the port user name is not blank, it is used together with an empty password and is
submitted to the user validation mechanism. The following message is displayed:
... using default port username ...
If a user name with a name matching the configured port user name exists and has no
password, login continues with session protocol selection. If user validation fails, the
login: prompt is repeated up to two more times. After three failures, the port is
logged out.
At factory configuration reset time, a single user name, GUEST, is defined with no
password. It is not possible to create a new user name without a password or to delete a
password from an existing user name. Therefore, the GUEST user name is the only user
name that can have an empty password.
For the Autoconnect feature to work, the following attributes must be configured:
