AWAN Access Server Management
Figure 1-6 shows an AWAN access server in a dial-out configuration. In this example,
PCs on the LAN can access resources elsewhere in the network using modems
connected to the AWAN access server.
Detailed information about dial-out connections is provided in Section 11, Configuring
Dial-Out Connections.
AWAN Access Server Management
You use the RAS Management Tool to manage the AWAN access server. The RAS
Management Tool is a menu-driven application that enables you to configure and
manage an AWAN access server over an IP or Novell NetWare network from a
Windows-based PC. The RAS Management Tool includes both online and context-
sensitive help.
You also can configure and monitor the AWAN access server by using a third-party
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) program such as HP OpenView,
SUNNET Manager, or Castlerock SNMPC. SNMP can operate over either an IP or
Novell NetWare network.
Finally, the Command Line Interface (CLI) can be used to perform some management
functions. The CLI is an interactive command-based interface that is used from an
asynchronous terminal or terminal emulator directly connected to the AWAN access
server.
Detailed information about the RAS Management Tool is provided in Section 5, Using
the RAS Management Tool. Detailed information about using the CLI is provided in
Appendix C, Command Line Interface (CLI) Commands.

Note. The AWAN access server cannot be managed through the Subsystem Control Facility
(SCF), the Subsystem Programmatic Interface (SPI), or the Tandem Service Management
(TSM) package.
