Compatibility with Himalaya K-Series Servers
Tandem 6530 terminals and terminal emulators, VT-series terminals and terminal
emulators using 6530 emulation, and 6530 gateway terminals interoperate with any
version of the Tandem NonStop TCP/IP subsystem and Telserv subsystem on Himalaya
K-series servers.
Although serial printers interoperate with older versions of the FASTPTCP LAN print
spooler product, newer FASTPTCP releases contain important improvements.
Workstations connected to the AWAN access server using remote access connections
can access the same Tandem NonStop TCP/IP subsystem features (Telnet, File Transfer
Protocol (FTP), and so forth) that are available to workstations connected to the same
LAN as the AWAN access server. The AWAN access server simply passes through all
TCP/IP frames from the workstation to the LAN.
Himalaya K-Series to Himalaya S-Series Migration
The AWAN access server replaces most of the major functions of the Himalaya K-series
3650 communications subsystem (CSS) for Himalaya S-series servers, adds higher
speed lines (115.2 Kbps), and provides additional capabilities such as remote access
connections.
Using an AWAN access server can provide for a smooth transition from a Himalaya
K-series server to a Himalaya S-series server by permitting the asynchronous conversion
to occur in advance of the Himalaya S-series installation.
Note. Some Telserv subsystem features and fixes might not be present in older versions of the
Telserv subsystem.
