Installing the Software
This section describes how to install the software provided with your AWAN access
server on a personal computer (PC). The PC will act as the management workstation for
your AWAN access server.
Before You Begin
Before installing the software, you must select an appropriate PC to act as your
management workstation. Make sure the PC meets the following requirements:
IBM or IBM-compatible PC 486 or Pentium PC with a VGA monitor
Microsoft Windows 3.11, Windows for Workgroups, Windows 95, or Windows NT
operating system
If you are using Windows 3.11 or Windows for Workgroups, you must install the
following additional software:
Internet Protocol (IP) networks: An IP stack such as Trumpet Winsock or
Chameleon.
Novell NetWare networks: Novell NetWare DOS Requester (VLMs) version 1.1 or
higher. You can download software upgrades from the Novell Web site at
http://www.novell.com.
Software Components
The AWAN access server software is provided on four floppy disks. Two of the floppy
disks are labeled “Management” and two are labeled “Software Utilities.
Management Floppy Disks
The Management floppy disks contain the management software, which consists of the
following applications:
RAS Management Tool
Checkpoint program
Online help for the RAS Management Tool
Online help for the Checkpoint program
You use the RAS Management Tool to configure and manage the AWAN access server.
You use the Checkpoint program to set up security for the RAS Management Tool.
You must install the Management software on your management workstation.
Note. Do not use an EGA monitor for the management workstation monitor; an EGA monitor
cannot display the RAS Management Tool window correctly.
