Using Telnet From the Management Workstation
The Telnet option enables you to start a Telnet application from within the RAS
Management Tool. To use the Telnet option, click on the maximized server icon using
the right mouse button to display the Server Characteristics and Properties menu. The
Server Characteristics and Properties menu is shown in Figure 5-19
.
.
Choose Telnet... to start the Telnet application. The AWAN access server firmware
version is displayed and then the Local> prompt appears indicating that you are
connected to the AWAN access server.
The Telnet application is defined as telnet in the C:\WINDOWS\RASMGMT.INI file. If
your Telnet application is not called telnet (for example, Trumpet Winsock uses telw
instead of telnet), you must modify the C:\WINDOWS\RASMGMT.INI file. To define
your Telnet application, enter the following line under Options in the
C:\WINDOWS\RASMGMT.INI file:
telnet-application
is the name of your Telnet application.

Note. TCP port 23 is used for inbound Telnet sessions for system administration and 6530
gateway sessions. If TCP port 23 is configured for VT-to-6530 sessions, the ability to Telnet into
the AWAN access server is disabled. For more information, refer to Section 10, Configuring the
6530 Gateway Feature.
