super group
super group. The group of user IDs that have 255 as the group number. This group has
special privileges; many HP utilities have commands or functions that can be executed
only by a member of the super group.
super-group user. A user who can read, write, execute, and purge most files on the
system. Super-group users have user IDs that have 255 as the group number.
super ID. A privileged user who can read, write, execute, and purge all files on the system.
In the Guardian environment, the superþID has the userþID 255,255.
SUT. See site update tape (SUT).
SWAN concentrator. See ServerNet wide area network (SWAN) concentrator.
SYSGENR. The system generation program that generates a customized version of the
operating system.
SYSnn subvolume. A subvolume on the $SYSTEM volume where the new version of the
operating system image is located. Also located on the SYSnn subvolume is
system-dependent and version-dependent software. nn is an octal number in the
range %00 through %77.
system. A node. All the processors, controllers, firmware, peripheral devices, software, and
related components that are directly connected together to form an entity that is
managed by one operating system image and operated as one computer.
system area network (SAN). (1) A wormhole-routed, full-duplex, packet-switched,
point-to-point network designed with special attention to reducing latency and ensuring
reliability. The ServerNet SAN provides the communication path used for
interprocessor messages and for communication between processors and I/O devices.
(2) A low-cost, high-speed network, contained within a system, that connects
processors to each other and to ServerNet addressable controllers (SACs).
system-managed process. Another name for a generic process. See generic process

System Service Information (SSI) log. An Event Management Service (EMS) log that
includes information about customer-replaceable unit (CRU) removal, CRU insertion,
firmware loading, security authentication, incident report dial-out authorization, incident
report dial-out failure, and incident report confirmation. The SSI log can be viewed
using the TSM EMS Event Viewer Application or the OSM Event Viewer Application.
