CP6100 I/O Process Programming Manual
 Using CP6100: Managing Lines
 | as given in the Communications Management Interface (CMI)
 | Operator's Guide.
 • For any parameter you do not specify in the ALTER LINE <ldev>,
CONFIG command, the value specified in SYSGEN or in a
previous ALTER command will appear in the template block.
 • Changes you make with ALTER LINE <ldev>, CONFIG last until the
next cold-load or the next ALTER LINE <ldev>, CONFIG command.
 • A change in the configuration of a line affects all users of
the line. Furthermore, the actions of any application--for
example, opening and closing the line--have no effect on the
configuration. Changing the parameters of a line to benefit
one application may have undesirable effects on other users of
 the line.
 • If you want to retain configuration changes you make with
ALTER LINE <ldev>, CONFIG, it's a good idea to change the
SYSGEN configuration file as soon as possible. It is all too
easy to cold-load a system and then realize you've lost a set
of changes you no longer clearly remember--especially if your
system has many lines with different parameters. The
configuration file is a useful way to remember how you want a
 line to be defined.
