1.1 Mode Switch
The mode switch is located in the right, lower corner of the display unit. Use to select the SCSI ID, turn
compression on and off, access the off-line utilities, and perform the initial setup of the tape drive.
1.2 LEDs
The tape drive display unit has two LEDs, one green and one amber. The green LED indicates that data
compression is active. The amber LED is a user-programmable, error-alert indicator that lights when the
error-rate percentage reaches a predetermined value. To set this value or alter it, use the mode switch in
conjunction with the setup menus.

Warning: Using the LCD functionality to change operations or configuration
parameters without proper understanding can cause the 5242 to become non-
operational.
