MAPI E-mail Systems
The 32-bit version of the MAPI Services (mapi32.dll and its associated
software) must be installed on the same computer where the adapters are
installed
A valid profile must exist. (Profiles are associated with the user ID)
The Event Server, if used, must run under a user ID that has access to the
desired profile
Examples
The following scenarios and solutions can help you troubleshoot common problems
using the MAPI utility adapter.
Problem: “I can only send e-mail if Outlook is running.
Probable cause: You are using an invalid profile.
Solution: Use a valid profile. Obtain a list of valid profiles by either one of the
following:
! Run the Trace adapter command with verbose option (-TV) and see what
profiles are accessible to your user ID.
! Select
Mail from Start > Settings > Control Panel. Then click
Show Profiles to display the profiles set up on your computer.
A feature of MAPI is that it if your profile is not valid, an existing session is
used instead. This is why it works if Outlook is running. If you have a valid
profile, it is not necessary to have Outlook running. However, the Event Server
cannot take advantage of the existing session. (Refer to the next example for
solution information).
Problem: “E-mail works from the Map Designer, but not from the Event
Server.
Probable cause: You are using a profile that isn't valid for the Event Server’s
user ID.
Solution: Change the account under which the Event Server runs to one that
can access the desired profile.
Profiles are associated with a user ID. By default, the Event Server runs as
SYSTEM and it is not possible to define any profiles the SYSTEM account. It is
also possible that your profile is incorrect. This is especially true if you have an
e-mail client (such as Outlook) running while Map Designer is running.
