Chapter 1 - E-mail Adapters
This chapter introduces the e-mail adapters. You can use the adapters with a
Command Server, Event Server, Platform API, or map in a map rule.
Overview
E-mail adapters automatically receive e-mail messages as sources of a map or
send e-mail messages as targets of a map. The possibilities are flexible and easy
to implement. Using an e-mail adapter you can:
Send sales orders to a remote manufacturing facility
Retrieve notifications of error messages for technical support activities
Pass notification of a contract price to a component
E-mail adapters support protocols for:
Microsoft Mail API (MAPI)
Vendor Independent Messaging (VIM) (such as Lotus Notes or Lotus cc:Mail)
Internet E-mail (SMTP/POP3)
System Requirements
The minimum system requirements and operating system requirements for the
E-mail adapter are detailed in the release notes. It is assumed that a Command
Server has already been installed on the computer where the adapter is to be
installed for run-time purposes.
The machine where the e-mail adapters are installed must be able to access the
e-mail servers over a network.
See the Getting Started book for details about the installation program.
