Data Transformation Engine Getting Started

Chapter 1 - Introduction

Defining Resource Connectivity
When you use the Integration Flow Designer to specify resource adapters for map components, links are
automatically established when the target of one component is used as the source of another so you can
see the flow of information among system components as you design.
Defining Event Rules
Enterprise users that have selected a Mercator Event Server will want to use the Integration Flow
Designer to configure the event rules used to determine the conditions under which a map will run.
A map component can be initiated based on one or more time, file, database application, and/or message
events. For example, you can specify the insertion of data in a database table to be a map trigger. Or,
you can specify the coordination of multiple events, such astrigger this map every day at 4:00 P.M. if
there is a message on my queue.” Event management can also include wildcard matching for events
across inputs and outputs. For transaction-based transformations, there are rollback, delete, and retry
options, as well.
Map Configurations Settings
From the Integration Flow Designer, there are many options for configuring each map. There are
options for priority, event expiration settings, audit logging, paging options, multi-threading, and more.
This allows you to configure your production systems for optimal performance.
Managing Systems
To prepare a system for deployment, you will want to build, analyze, and possibly port, all the map
components in that system. You use the Integration Flow Designer to do this.
Consistent control information can be generated from the graphical diagram of system components. For
example, you can generate map command files for a Command Server. This information can be used to
distribute transformation components and/or sub-systems across different servers to execute systems as
an integrated whole.
Deploying What You Develop
Mercator’s E-Business Broker Suite is an industrial strength product with a wide range of applicability,
from event-driven interfaces to large-scale batch transformations.
Data transformations can be executed using a variety of methods. Map objects and reconfigured
resource adapters can be executed using a command script and a command server, using input from the
Integration Flow Designer and an event-driven Event Server, or by using input from an application and
one of Mercator’s APIs.
Variety of Execution Methods
When you use a Mercator Desktop product, transformation takes place in the same desktop environment
where you develop your maps.
