Where to Begin
This book, Getting Started, provides an overview of the Mercator product family and is a good place to
start. Then we suggest you use the
Design Studio Tutorial, a step-by-step tutorial with detailed examples
for creating type trees, and building and running maps. Once you have read the lessons and performed
each of the examples in the
Design Tutorial, you should then be familiar with the basic Mercator
concepts, the Type Designer and Map Designer programs, and the basic skills required to map data.
Learn by Example
Another source for learning about Mercator products is the Examples folder mentioned earlier. These
examples illustrate how to use Mercator products to accomplish a specific task. They should give you
ideas about how to achieve your goals in mapping your data.
In addition to the examples and manuals, extensive Help is available for each program.
Learn in Class
Need to get a large group of people going on Mercator products fast? A full range of instructional
courses is offered by Mercator on a regular basis at their training facilities. Training at your site can also
be arranged by special request. These courses are conducted by professional trainers and provide
extensive hands-on lab exercises to enhance the retention of important concepts.
