Chapter 1 - Introduction
Overview
This chapter presents an overview of the Mercator products and describes how they address various
aspects of e-business application integration.
What is Mercator?
Mercator is a software company that provides an E-Business Integration Broker Suite of products for
enabling the integration of applications—across the enterprise, business-to-business, or business-to-
consumer. The E-Business Integration Broker Suite provides a rich, graphical environment for defining
data content, data transformation, data transport, and information workflow. When used in production, it
may be deployed across a variety of servers on multiple platforms. You can select the mode of
execution—be it command-driven, event-driven, or application-driven—to fit your enterprise
architecture seamlessly.
What Makes Mercator’s e-Business Integration Suite
Unique?
Mercator’s e-Business integration solution differs sharply from other integration products in a number
of important respects.
♦ Servers – The core products reduce the cost of building, testing, and maintaining custom interfaces,
protocols, and procedures for linking disparate applications. Mercator’s e-Business integration
resolves application semantics and routes information and transform data completely without
custom interface code clearly sets it apart.
♦ Mercator’s e-Business integration suite reduces the time, cost, and effort associated with building
and maintaining application interfaces, regardless of complexity.
♦ Mercator’s e-Business integration operates on more than 20 platforms; it integrates messaging
systems, files, databases, mail systems, and more; and it can be fully embedded within applications.
What is the NonStop Data Transformation Engine?
HP has partnered with Mercator, porting many components of their E-Business Integration Broker Suite
to the NonStop platform and forming a new HP product called the NonStop Data Transformation
Engine (NonStop DTE). NonStop DTE makes portions of the Mercator product family available in the
Open System Services (OSS) environment on the NonStop platform.
