Chapter 2 - Integration Flow Designer
Basics
This chapter assumes that you have already installed the Design Studio and are
ready to start using the Integration Flow Designer (IFD). In this chapter, you will
learn the file structure used, how to start the program, and information about
converting files from older versions and getting help.
Overview
The IFD is a graphical facility for organizing collections of related maps into a
single unit or system. A system can include components that reference executable
maps or other systems. A system definition file (.msd) contains the various
systems and servers that you define and is the fundamental file produced by the
IFD.
Use the IFD to design systems and generate process control information from
these system definitions. Command or Event Servers then execute the process
control information by running the compiled maps on servers you have specified.
Filename Extensions
The IFD views a map as an indivisible unit recognizing both source and compiled
maps. For design purposes, it also enables you to define placeholders for maps
that have not yet been implemented (psuedo maps). The IFD generates or uses
the following files:
Filename Extension Description
.msd Mercator system definition file generated by the IFD.
.msl Mercator Event Server system file, a system definition
file generated for the Event Server.
.mmc Mercator compiled map generated by the Map Designer.
.mtt Mercator type tree file generated by the Type Designer.
Note Psuedo maps and external systems do not have filename extensions.
