Chapter 7 – Version 6.0
Version 6.0 offers new features, enhancements to functionality, and improvements
in using Mercator products. Significant changes introduced in Version 6.0 are
described in the following sections.
Mercator Design Studio Enhancements
The enhancements to the Mercator Design Studio user interface provide:
♦ more management services for enterprise development
♦ increased productivity in designing system integration models
♦ better ease of use in formulating and understanding rules
♦ help for novice users
New: Project Management Interface for All Designers
The Project Management feature permits the archiving of Mercator source files
into a third-party source control system of your choice. Organize files into projects
within the source control system. This feature allows you to save and retrieve
multiple revisions of the source files to or from a source control system, avoiding
manual backup of original source files.
All Mercator Designers support all version control software that is Microsoft SCCI
(Source Code Control Interface) compliant, such as: Merant PVCS®.
New: An Open Document Interface for Map Definitions
New in Version 6.0, map source definitions have an XML document form in
addition to Mercator’s internal source file format. From the Map Designer, the Map
Import command allows a map definition in document form to be converted to the
internal Mercator form. The Map Export command converts a map definition from
the internal Mercator form to the document form. The import and export feature
for map source files in the Map Designer is similar to the Type Import or Export
feature provided in the Type Designer for data type definitions.
This open document interface is useful for storing map definitions in a repository
of choice, for exploring global impact analysis or converting business rules from
other sources to Mercator rules.
