and heartbeats, and remote management services to securely stop and start
Mercator systems.
The Management Console, which can be installed on one or more platforms,
communicates with Mercator systems controlled by an Event Server. To configure
the systems that can be controlled, Mercator now provides an Event Server
Administration service.
Event Server Administration Service
Each platform that has a Mercator Event Server installed now has an Event Server
Administration service that allows configuration of secure access rights to monitor
and control individual Mercator systems.
Using the Administration service, connection ports for the Management Console
can be configured, and resource resolution directives can be specified globally or
on a system-by-system basis.
SNMP Support
As an alternate or supplement to Mercator’s Management Console, Mercator now
provides support for SNMP in Version 6.0. SNMP support includes the ability to
notify management software (such as HP OpenView, Tivoli BMC Patrol, etc.) of
failures or changes of state in maps, connections, listeners, and the Event Server.
SNMP support is provided with the Event Server on all platforms.
Resource Management Services
Mercator supplies a large number of resource adapters that provide connectivity to
databases, files, message oriented middleware systems, Internet protocols,
private networks, directory services, Java and COM objects, archive systems,
scripting services, and a variety of packaged applications. New in Version 6.0,
Mercator provides enhanced definitional and operational management services for
these resources.
Resource Registry
The Resource Registry is a new cross-platform application that provides naming
features for resource properties. The Resource Registry minimizes the
maintenance of systems and maps when deploying Mercator systems from one
environment to another.
The Resource Registry is used to define resource name files and resource
configuration files. Both resource name files and resource configuration files are
