3 Installing NonStop DCE
This section describes how to install NonStop DCE. The instructions here are similar,
but not identical, to those in the section about installing DCE in the OSF DCE
Administration Guide. You should read that OSF document for additional installation
guidance and use this guide for information specific to NonStop DCE.
Installation of NonStop DCE starts with either a site update tape (SUT) supplied by HP
or the download of the product files through Distributed System Management/Software
Configuration Management (DSM/SCM). The INSTALL (and optionally, system
generation) phase is run on a D-series system to produce a NonStop DCE installation
subvolume (ISV) or DSM/SCM is used to produce a target subvolume (TSV) on the
target system.
The system generation phase is necessary to update the system’s Event Management
Service (EMS) templates with DCE formatting instructions. If EMS is used for
Nonstop DCE serviceability messages (For more information, see Section 7, Managing
a DCE Cell), you should perform the system generation phase and a system load. If
the system generation phase is not performed and EMS is used, the DCE messages
formatted by EMS show “TANDEM.188.ann” instead of “TANDEM.DCE.ann” as the
subsystem ID (where ann indicates the product version).
The NonStop DCE formatting instructions can be added to a running system without a
system load by using TEMPLI and COUP on a D-series system or using DSM/SCM on
a G-series or H-series system. These utilities add the NonStop DCE formatting
template file (ZDCETMPL) to the nonresident formatting template file. For more
information, see the DSM Template Services Manual.
The NonStop DCE ISV or TSV contains a shared run-time library (TNS version of
DCE) or user library (TNS/R and TNS/E versions of DCE) and a set of pax archive
files. During installation, selected files are copied from the pax archive into the DCE
directory hierarchy. The shell script, dce_config, is within the archive files and is
used to install NonStop DCE.
For instructions on monitoring the dce_config script, see Monitoring the dce_config
Script on page 3-17.
Installation
Two types of installation are commonly performed:
Initial installation or complete reinstallation of NonStop DCE, described in Initial
Installation or Complete Reinstallation on page 3-2.
You can also remove cloning from an existing virtual host by completely reinstalling
that virtual host and responding appropriately to cloning-related prompts.
Partial installation or upgrade of NonStop DCE software for enhancements or bug
fixes, as described in Partial Installation or Upgrade on page 3-8.
