6 Recommended Usage
This section describes the recommended usage of NonStop DCE. For more
information see the DCE Application Programming Guide for application design
recommendations.
Cell Directory Service (CDS) Server
The CDS server database cannot be moved between platforms, as described in the
OSF DCE Administration Guide. The database can be moved between NonStop
systems using the Guardian utilities BACKUP and RESTORE.
The NonStop SQL/MP database can be partitioned for greater parallelism and higher
performance. Disks can be mirrored for data replication. See NonStop SQL/MP and
TMF documentation for more information on SQL database management.
Moving a CDS Database to a NonStop System
To benefit from the increased performance, availability, and scalability of NonStop DCE
CDS, you can move an existing CDS database to a NonStop system. .
To move a CDS database:
1. Start dce_config from an OSS shell prompt.
2. From the dce_config main menu, select option 2 CONFIGURE.
3. From the DCE Configuration menu, select option 2 (Additional Server
Configuration).
4. From the Additional Server Configuration menu, select option 1 (Additional CDS
Server(s)).
5. Enter requested information, such as the name of a new clearinghouse. This name
is usually the name of the machine followed by the suffix _ch.
After you enter the new clearinghouse name, this prompt appears:
Should all directories be replicated [y/n]?
6. Enter one of the following:
If you want to replicate the complete CDS namespace into the new
clearinghouse created in Step 5, enter y, then go to Step 9.
If you want to manually replicate the directories, enter n, then continue with
Step 7.
7. After the machine is configured as an additional server, you can display the
directories by entering the cdscp command:
show clearinghouse /.:/* .
