A Migration Guide
This appendix describes compatibility and migration for:
Migrating From DCE Version 1.0.3 on page A-1
Migrating From the D31 Product Version on page A-2
Migrating From a TNS Version to a TNS/R Version on page A-3
Migrating From DCE Version 1.0.3
NonStop DCE version 1.1 is not compatible with the previously released DCE version
1.0.3-based Software Development Kit (SDK) in these areas:
CDS database format
The CDS database format changed. A utility is provided for converting the CDS
database, convert_cds_db. This utility is automatically run during installation of
version 1.1.
Security database (registry) format
Password encryption changed. Because security migration from the SDK to
NonStop DCE version 1.1 is not possible, manual reconfiguration is required. That
is, you must uninstall your DCE version 1.0.3-based SDK and install NonStop DCE
version 1.1.
Application programs
DCE application programs that were built using the DCE 1.0.3-based version of the
NonStop DCE shared run-time library (SRL) must be rebuilt using a D31 or newer
product version of the NonStop DCE SRL. The new SRL requires a larger
allocation of data in application programs than was provided in previous builds. If a
program is not rebuilt, this message appears when the program is run:
run application
/bin/-sh: application: cannot execute
Only the final step of the application build, the step that creates the runnable
program, must be repeated.
Distributor-agent API
Minor coding changes are required to migrate SDK-based distributor-agent
applications to the new distributor-agent API. This new API is the same as the
standard DCE server API.
If you have an existing distributor-agent application, convert your application to use
the NonStop DCE version 1.1 server initialization API. The server must be written
so that it is started and managed by dced.
