DNSCOM Commands and
Operating Modes
DNSCOM operates in either of two modes: user or definition. User mode is the
default mode of operation; definition mode is available to you only if your security
authorization includes definition authority.
In user mode, the following kinds of operations are possible:
ADD, ALTER, DELETE, SET, SHOW, and RESET:
Aliases
Composites
Domains
Groups
Subsystem objects
Subsystem managers
Start and stop DNS configurations
Obtain the status of DNS and of exports
Enable and disable exporting
Execute inquiry commands
In definition mode, you have access to all of the user mode functions, plus the
following:
Initialize a DNS configuration
ADD, ALTER, DELETE, SET, SHOW, and RESET:
Alias types
Composite types
Subsystem-object types
Subsystems
See “Security Through Operating Modes” in Section 3 to switch operating modes.
Options for Entering
DNSCOM Commands
This subsection describes the flexibility of the DNSCOM command syntax, such as
entering multiple commands on a single command line, processing commands on
other systems, and so on. General syntax conventions appear at the front of this
manual, but the descriptions here are more specific to DNSCOM.
Editing the Command Line
(FC Command)
To edit a DNSCOM command line, use the FC command. The FC command allows
you to change or correct previously entered commands. For more information on the
FC, refer to the TACL User's Guide
.
