7 The DNSCOM Commands

This section presents detailed information about all the DNSCOM commands,
including complete command syntax, command description, special considerations,
and examples. In the examples in this section, user input appears in boldface type,
and DNSCOM output appears in normal type.
Some DNSCOM commands initialize, open, and close DNS configurations and
processes. Other commands add, alter, or delete the name definitions in the DNS
name database. Other commands are simply used to display information regarding
DNS configurations, processes, files, objects, processes, and so on. Alphabetically
listed command descriptions begin after Table 7-4.
See “Notation Conventions” at the beginning of this manual for an overview of the
syntax conventions used in this manual.
Overview of DNSCOM
Commands
The update, inquiry, operational, and basic commands are listed in Tables 7-1 through
7-4, respectively. These command groups were introduced in Section 6. In each table,
the commands appear in alphabetic order, along with a description of their functions.
The functions available through the DNS commands, except the basic commands, are
also available through the programmatic interface of DNS as discussed in the
Distributed Name Service (DNS) Management Programming Manual.
