Distributed Name Service (DNS) Management Operations Manual

INITIALIZE DNS
The DNSCOM Commands
7–136 31258 Tandem Computers Incorporated
If ! is omitted, and the specified or default DNS configuration file exists, the
following message is issued:
FILE CREATE ERROR -
file name
- record already exists
If ! is included and the specified or default DNS configuration file exists,
DNSCOM attempts to purge the file. If unsuccessful, an error message is
generated.
This is the case if the user executing the command is not the current DNS owner or
local SUPER.SUPER user or does not have purge authority for the file.
Similarly, if ! and DNSCONFONLY are omitted, and any of the DNS database files
exist, an error message is issued and DNS is not initialized.
If the value of DNS-MANAGER PROCESSNAME is equal to the value of
DNS-EXPORTER PROCESSNAME, the command is rejected with:
ERROR 1069 - Process names for DNS-MANAGER and
DNS-EXPORTER must be different
All files are initially owned by the user executing the command and have the
user’s default security. If all files are successfully created, DNSCOM alters their
security flags to xeOO where e is the EXECUTE authority for DNS as specified in
the DNS SECURITY attribute, and x is determined as described below. If the
DNSOWNER attribute is different from the user executing the INITIALIZE DNS
command, the files are given to DNSOWNER.
The READ authority for the DNS files is determined by the values of the READ
and EXECUTE authority as show in the following table:
READ AUTHORITY
A G O N C U -
----------------------------
A | A A A N N N A
G | A G G N C C G
O | A G O N C U O
EXECUTE AUTHORITY N | N N N N N N N
