Distributed Name Service (DNS) Management Operations Manual
OPEN
The DNSCOM Commands
7–164 31258 Tandem Computers Incorporated
OPEN The OPEN command requests DNSCOM to establish communication with a DNS
name manager. If communications cannot be established, an error message is
generated and the current name manager is unchanged. Section 6 also provides
information about opening name managers in “Switching DNS Configurations.”
The OPEN command may also be used to change DNS configurations and to alter the
NAMESYS setting to the name manager’s system name.
OPEN [ { \
system
|
name manager
} ]
\
system
is a Guardian 90 system name. DNSCOM attempts to open the name manager on
the specified system. If omitted, DNSCOM attempts to open the name manager
on the system specified by the last CMDSYS command.
name manager
is the name manager you want to open.
Unless
name manager
is specified, the name manager opened is determined by
the current manager name and the current CMDSYS setting.
Examples
OPEN \WEST
OPEN \MADRID.$DNS
OPEN $RDNS
Considerations
If
name manager
is not specified, and \
system
is, DNS is opened at that system;
otherwise, if the current configuration file is in the network format, the name
manager to be opened is determined by the system specified together with the
current manager name. Otherwise, DNS is opened at the system specified by the
last CMDSYS command.
Regardless of the syntax used, if the OPEN command is successful, the current
configuration file is changed to the configuration file from which the manager just
opened was started.
