type. See alias type, subsystem-object type, and composite type.
type number. See alias type number, subsystem-object type number, and composite
type number.
type name. See alias type name, subsystem-object type name, and composite type
name.
typed alias. An alias with a type attribute, used in an application where it is required to
distinguish between multiple aliases for the same object.
untyped alias. An alias with no type attribute, used in an application where it is
unnecessary to distinguish between multiple aliases for the same object.
user mode. The DNSCOM operating mode that allows users to add, alter, or delete
composites, domains, aliases, groups, subsystem-object names, and subsystem
managers; start and stop DNS; obtain the status of DNS; and display information in
the DNS database.
validation. Verification for conformity with a rule or policy. In the case of DNS, the
process of verifying that a particular string fulfills all requirements for a legal DNS
name.
ViewPoint. An extensible interactive application for managing operations. It allows a
system or a network to be controlled from a single terminal. It includes several block-
mode display screens for events, a block-mode display for system or network status, a
conversational TACL screen, and a facility called Define Process to maintain sessions
with multiple subsystems at the same time.
warning. A condition, encountered in performing a command or other operation, that
can be significant, but does not cause the command or operation to fail. A warning is
less serious than an error. Compare error.
write authority. The ability to update a file. In the case of DNS, the authority required to
update the DNS database.
$ZDNS. The default name of the DNS name manager process.
$ZDNX. The default name of the DNS name exporter process.
