Some applications must distinguish between multiple aliases for the same object, while
others need not. Event-management applications, for example, often need to make
this distinction because they usually want to select a particular alias for display to a
user.
Other applications never need to distinguish between multiple aliases for the same
object. They typically accept any alias and invoke DNS to obtain the corresponding
subsystem-object name. Aliases used by such applications are usually untyped aliases.
An object can have any number of untyped aliases, but only one alias of a given alias
type.
