The functions available through the DNSCOM commands, except the basic
commands, are also available through SPI. SPI is the programmatic interface to DNS
and is discussed in the Distributed Name Service (DNS) Management Programming
Manual.
The remainder of this section includes specific information about the various ways to
enter and use the DNSCOM commands.
Keywords Used in
Commands
In addition to the action keywords that are commonly used in the command formats
of many subsystems (ADD, DELETE, SHOW, and so on), DNS has its own unique
keywords.
DNS Keywords DNS keywords describe DNS objects referenced by commands, command attributes,
and the logical file names that make up a DNS database. Appendix C lists all the
keywords reserved by DNSCOM.
You can use DNSCOM reserved words as names, provided that you precede them
with a percent sign (%) as in the examples below:
%DNS-MANAGER
%DNSDOMAIN
%COMPOSITE
Command Object and
Attribute Keywords
The DNS command object keywords and the attributes that apply to these command
objects are listed in Table 6-1. The actual keyword of the attributes, as used in the
commands, are listed along with default values.
Required attributes are denoted in Table 6-1 to the right of the attribute (r); the other
attributes are optional. Table 6-1 also show which DNSCOM commands can be used
with the various DNS command objects.
Table 6-2 shows default values for attributes that require extended explanation.
