Critical Events The DNS critical events are described below, including the event number. The
following subsection, “Event Management Strategies,” gives guidelines for recovery
actions based on the DNS event message. DNS designates an event as critical in the
following cases:
A potential or actual loss of data.
A major DNS function is lost.
A loss of fault-tolerance capability occurred.
A loss of integrity of a DNS component (internal error) occurred.
In particular, the following event messages are designated as critical:
10: ZDNS-EVT-
CHECKPOINT-FAIL
An I/O error has occurred during a name-manager checkpoint operation. The name-
manager backup has been stopped, resulting in a loss of fault tolerance.
11: ZDNS-EVT-
CHECKOPEN-FAIL
The backup name manager is unable to CHECKOPEN a file. The name-manager
backup has been stopped, resulting in a loss of fault tolerance.
12: ZDNS-EVT-
CREATEBACKUP-FAIL
The name manager is unable to create a backup process, resulting in a loss of fault
tolerance.
13: ZDNS-EVT-BACKUP-
DELETED
The backup name manager’s CPU has failed, resulting in a loss of fault tolerance.
14: ZDNS-EVT-BACKUP-
ABENDED
The name manager backup abends resulting in a loss of fault tolerance.
17: ZDNS-EVT-RESYNC-
FAIL
After a takeover by the backup name manager, a RESETSYNC operation has failed.
Potential data loss may result.
20: ZDNS-EVT-IO-ERROR An unexpected and unrecoverable I/O error has occurred. Potential data loss may
result.
21: ZDNS-EVT-OPEN-
ERROR
A file open error has occurred. Possible loss of a major DNS function may result.
22: ZDNS-EVT-TYPE-
ERROR
An attempt to replicate a name has failed due to a type conflict between the exporting
and importing systems. No further replication of this name is possible between the
systems until this problem is resolved.
24: ZDNS-EVT-DATABASE-
ERROR
A database integrity check has failed, resulting in potential loss of subsystem integrity.
25: ZDNS-EVT-INTERNAL-
ERROR
An unrecoverable internal error has been detected, resulting in loss of subsystem
integrity.
26: ZDNS-EVT-DB-
VERSION-ERROR
The name manager is incompatible with the version at which the DNS database was
last initialized. An emergency shutdown of DNS is initiated.
