Distributed Name Service (DNS) Management Programming Manual
Appendix I Update for D-Series Operating
Systems
46958 Tandem Computers Incorporated I–1
Introduction This appendix summarizes the differences between the C-series and D-series operating
systems that affect the way you use the Event Management Service (EMS) on D-series
systems with DNS. In addition, this section describes restrictions on network topology
and inter-node compatibility.
This appendix contains a portion of the information in a supplemental document
written for the Event Management Service (EMS) Manual. For complete information
about using EMS on a D-series system, refer to the Event Management Service (EMS)
Manual and its accompanying supplement. Used together, they tell you how to use
EMS on a D-series system.
If you are an operator or system manager using EMS to start collectors and
distributors, manage log files, and collect information about collectors and
distributors, the functions you perform change in these ways when you use the
D-series operating systems:
You might have to specify the HIGHPIN option on the TACL RUN command
when you start a distributor or alternate collector.
Console output produced by the compatibility distributor is slightly different.
You can specify the HIGHPIN option when you run the EMSCINFO and
EMSCCTRL programs.
If you are a programmer writing filter programs, management applications that
retrieve event messages, or subsystems that build event messages, the functions you
perform change in these ways when you use the D-series operating systems:
Event messages contain new tokens.
New system procedure calls are used to create and open processes.
EMS programs and procedures are modified.
Three new EMF functions are available.
Some tokens created on one version of the operating system cannot be accessed on
another version of the operating system.
