Overview of D-Series Operating System Changes Affecting EMS
Update for D-Series Operating Systems

A network can consist of some nodes running C-series operating systems (with all
processes in low PINs), and other nodes running D-series operating systems (with
unconverted processes at low PINs and converted processes in either low PINs or high
PINs).
Figure I-1 shows a two-node network, with one C-series node and one D-series node.

Does a Process Run in a High PIN or a Low PIN?
You can run your C-series EMS management programs, subsystems, or filters on a
D-series operating system without converting them to use D-series features. These
unconverted programs will run at a low PIN on a D-series operating system. You
must convert or recompile a program if you want to run it at a high PIN. Once the
program is converted, it can be run at either a high or low PIN; you can specify at the
time you run the program. For example, you can use a BINDER command to specify
that a program always run at a high PIN, unless a run-time parameter overrides this
specification.
