resolv.conf file.
to become Internet standards, the final version of the RFC becomes the standard and
no further comments or changes are permitted. Change can occur, however, through
subsequent RFCs that supersede or elaborate on all or parts of previous RFCs.
resolv.conf file. A file that contains details about the address of the Name Server to contact
and the domain name to which it belongs.
Resource Record (RR). A DNS data record.
RFC. See Request for Comment (RFC).
RR. See Resource Record (RR).
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). An asynchronous request-response
protocol used for network management. SNMP originated as a means for managing
TCP/IP and Ethernet networks. Open System Management (OSM) packages can
include an SNMP-compliant interface for communication between the system console
and HP NonStop™ S-series server.
SNMP. See Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).
TCP. See Transmission Control Protocol (TCP).
Transmission Control Protocol (TCP). A connection-oriented protocol that provides for
the reliable exchange of data between a sending and a receiving system. TCP
implements functions corresponding to the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI)
reference model Layer 4, the transport layer.
zone file. A file on a Name Server that designates a domain name along with all of its
associated subdomains, IP addresses, and mail server. Parts of a zone file include the
A record, CNAME, and MX records.
