Sharing Templates If Nodes Are Using Different Software
Versions
To have a node interpret events from another node that is running different versions of
software, such as Guardian, Template Services, subsystems that generate events, and
so on, consider:
•
If two templates in separate template files have the same template key, one
template will replace the other, as described in How TEMPLI Merges Template
Files on page 5-9. Therefore, if an application’s template changed from one
product version to the next, but the template key has not, one product version’s
template is replaced by another product version’s template. This could cause
various problems when translating an event into an operator message.
•
If a template from a later product version of software is used with an EMSTEXT
procedure from an earlier product version of software, and the procedure
encounters a feature it does not recognize, EMSTEXT stops formatting the
message. An incomplete message can result. However, no other problems result,
such as a CPU failure.
•
EMSTEXT can read an event from an earlier product version of software without a
problem. However, in the case of a more recent template used with an older
version of an event, if there is a token that the template uses but the event does
not have, a question mark appears in that spot.
HP recommends that you use the same product version of software on all central and
distributed nodes. However, if you use different versions, HP recommends that central
nodes have the latest product version of software.
