Transferring and Receiving the Snapshot Into the
Host Database
A Build/Apply, and the activation package location is set to disk, the file transfer,
apply, and snapshot are executed automatically after the Build finishes.
For the complete procedure for applying a configuration revision, see Task 8: Apply
Software to the Target System on page 9-25.
Transferring and Receiving the Snapshot Into
the Host Database
A snapshot is required to update the host database with information about existing and
newly configured software on the target system. DSM/SCM can often generate a
snapshot and receive it into the host database automatically as part of the Apply
process if your systems use an Expand connection.
If the snapshot is not automatically sent to the host database, you must send a
snapshot of the target system back to the host database. You can generate a snapshot
at any time, independent of the Build and Apply processes. Receive the snapshot into
the host database as soon as it is transferred so it is immediately available if you
prepare another revision, back out a revision, or perform other maintenance tasks.See
Task 9: Transfer and Receive the Snapshot Into the Host Database on page 9-27.
Activating the New Software on the Target
System
DSM/SCM provides standard instructions for activating software. As needed, you can
modify these instructions when planning the configuration by adding simple notes or
copying information from softdocs or other documents. To activate new software on a
target system, read the instructions delivered with the activation package.
The activation procedure varies depending on the system and products involved. In a
varying order depending on the situation, activating software includes:
Printing the operator instructions.
Renaming the placed files to their actual names by running ZPHIRNM. When
product files are first applied to (placed on) a target system, they are given
