Setting Output Options
For host systems and target systems that are connected by a network other
than Expand, write the activation package and snapshot to disk when
submitting the Apply request. For example:
$DSMSCM
For host and target systems that are not network-connected, write the
activation package to tape. When you select a tape drive, these options
become available:
The optional External Tape ID (Handwritten) is handwritten on the tape.
Select this option to use this label in the EMS events displayed to
operators when this request is processing. You can enter up to six
alphanumeric characters.
Labeled Tape Volume ID (Electronic)
A labeled tape contains a record at the beginning of the tape identifying the
tape volume and the files it contains. Select this option to put the activation
package on a BACKUP labeled tape. This option does not create a labeled
tape.
1. Select an existing tape initialized as a BACKUP labeled tape using
MEDIACOM.
2. Enter the name of the labeled tape volume ID (maximum five alphanumeric
characters). Do not enter the number or letter suffix you assigned when
you created the tape. If the activation package spans multiple volumes,
DSM/SCM automatically reads the tapes in sequence.
When you select labeled tape, the tape drive list might contain:
For more information on the BACKUP utility, see the Guardian Disk and Tape
Utilities Reference Manual. For more information on labeled tapes, see the
DSM/Tape Catalog Operator Interface (MEDIACOM) Manual.
If the host and target systems are not network-connected, instruct the ZPHITI to write
the snapshot to ta
pe, which you must carry to the host.
Note. This option is valid only for the activation package (not the snapshot location)
and BACKUP labeled tapes. You must use RESTORE to restore the activation
package to disk on the target system before it can be applied. For more information on
RESTORE, see the Guardian Disk and Tape Utilities Reference Manual.
Nothing The tape server automatically finds the local drive where
you loaded the t
ape.
\sy
stem The t
ape server uses the specified system and finds the
remote drive where the tape is located.
\system.$dr
ive The specified system and drive are used.
$drive The specified drive o
n the local system is used.
