Task 8: Apply Software to the Target System
d. At the S/W Apply - Get Operator Instructions screen: 
1. Enter the location of the activation package:
If the activation package is on tape, mount the tape if it isn’t mounted 
already, enter the tape drive name in the From field, and press F1.
If the activation package is on disk, enter the system, volume, and 
subvolume location in the From field and press F1. (The planner put 
this location in the operator instructions.)
2. Press F1 to submit the request. 
6. Check the status of the request.
DSM/SCM retrieves the operator instructions from the activation package and 
displays the S/W Apply - Getting Instructions screen which shows status messages 
for the request.
DSM/SCM updates the screen with current status information approximately 
every 15 seconds.
To check current EMS messages related to the request while waiting for it to 
finish, press F4.
7. When the request finishes, DSM/SCM displays Get Preview Completed. 
DSM/SCM then processes for a minute, then displays the S/W Apply - Submit 
Apply screen, which contains a description of the Apply request and the 
instructions to activate the software after the Apply finishes.
Check that all data fields on the S/W Apply - Submit Apply screen are correct. If 
necessary, change their values. The data fields have these values:
8. Monitor the status of the Apply in the S/W Apply - Processing Apply screen:
DSM/SCM updates the screen with current status information approximately

for the SYSnn subvolume name.) If the Apply requires a system 
load, you must select a SYSnn other than the one that is 
running. The initial value is the one chosen by the planner.
