Task 9: Transfer and Receive the Snapshot Into the
Host Database
To check current EMS messages related to the request while waiting for it to
finish, press F4.
DSM/SCM displays the S/W Apply - Complete Apply screen, which contains the same
operator instructions displayed earlier. If you designated a print location, the
instructions are printed for you to use when activating the software. To page through
the instructions on the screen, use the PgUp and PgDn keys.
Task 9: Transfer and Receive the Snapshot
Into the Host Database
If you ran a Build/Apply request, DSM/SCM automatically generates a snapshot on the
target system after the software is applied, sends the snapshot to the host system, and
receives it into the host system database. The snapshot provides the host database
with current information about the software configurations on the target system. The
snapshot is then available if you need to prepare another revision, back out a revision,
or perform other maintenance tasks. The snapshot can help you to avoid problems in
future updates caused by discrepancies between the database information and the
actual configuration.
During an Independent Snapshot request on the target system, the snapshot is
automatically received into the host database if all these conditions are true:
The host and target are Expand connected.
The setting of the Use Network Connection flag on the target system is Y.
You must submit a Receive Snapshot request from the host system after the snapshot
is transferred to the host system if you created an independent snapshot and the value
of the Use Network Connection flag is N on the target.
Note. To check the status of an Apply as it is processing, you must use the ZPHITI. The
Planner Interface can display only the status of host activities. The ZPHITI can display only
the status of target activities. This is true for all logical targets, including the logical target
on the host system.
