Task 1: Planning the DSM/SCM Environment
Task 1: Planning the DSM/SCM Environment
You must configure a system managed by DSM/SCM as either a host system or a
target system. Each host manages one or more logical targets. At lease one host
system is required, and every system must have at least one logical target on it –
including the host system. The location of databases can vary based on convenience,
network connections, and available disk space.
To plan the configuration for a system in the DSM/SCM environment, you should
determine:
Is it a host system or target system?
Do any of the systems have multiple logical targets?
What is the system name and number of each host system and target system?
Which targets are managed by each host system?
Are the hosts and targets network connected?
Are the systems NonStop S-series systems or Integrity NonStop systems?
Which systems will contain the archive and each database?
Single System
A single system must:
Be configured as a host system
Contain at least one logical target
Contain both the host and target databases on a TMF audited disk
Contain the DSM/SCM archive. To avoid performance degradation, do not place
the archive and the databases on the same disk.
Multiple Systems
For network-connected systems, the basic configuration includes:
One host system with a logical target and host database on it
One logical target on every target system because they all serve as physical target
systems
One target database located on each target system.
You can also configure multiple host systems, each of which would manage separate
targets. For example, you can configure one host system for several development
systems and another host system for production systems.
