Database Administrator Tasks
In this example:
The assigned roles for the development systems and production systems are
distributed identically although they can be different people for each set of
systems.
One planner is assigned to each host system, \SYSA.
One operator is assigned to all local targets, including the logical targets on
\TARGB, \TARGC, and the logical target on \SYSA.
One database administrator is assigned to all the local systems: \TARGB, \TARGC,
and \SYSA.
One operator and one database administrator are assigned to the remote target
system, \TARGD.
The operators and database administrators could be separate people, or one
person could hold both responsibilities, as your personnel availability allows.
Database Administrator Tasks
The database administrator uses the ZPHIHMI, ZPHITMI and the Planner Interface to
maintain the DSM/SCM databases and other management tasks. Maintaining the
DSM/SCM databases requires an understanding of DSM/SCM concepts and SQL
database administration concepts and procedures. The database administrator often
initially installs DSM/SCM on systems and updates its configuration. Database
administrator tasks include:
Adding, moving, renaming, or deleting archive volumes
Backing up and restoring archive subvolumes on tape
Viewing, modifying, and listing system profiles
Managing volumes for DSM/SCM use on a target system
Managing the check-out of database items
Adding users to DSM/SCM and establishing what tasks they can perform
Resolving problems with the DSM/SCM database
These tasks include database maintenance tasks using the Maintenance Interfaces.
DSM/SCM is usually configured by the initial dat
abase administrator. By default, each
database administrator has full permission to access the ZPHIHMI. You can apply
restrictions by setting the appropriate flags on the Database Administrator Security
screen. You can give permission to a database administrator to perform these
functions:
