Configuring a Host or Target System
Configuring a Host or Target System
HP sets up a DEFAULT configuration on NonStop S-series systems and Integrity
NonStop systems. Use this procedure to check the default settings. As needed, update
the DSM/SCM profiles, user security, and device defaults. Make any changes to the
configuration on the DSM/SCM host system and the physical and logical targets on the
host system before using DSM/SCM to manage software.
After you make any needed changes to the configuration on the host system including
its logical target, you can:
Add additional logical targets to the host system. See Adding a Logical Target.
Configure target systems
Configure a Backup Host system. See Creating an Alternate System Disk on
page 5-22.
Modify DSM/SCM default parameters. See Changing DSM/SCM Default
Parameters on page 5-15.
After DSM/SCM is configured on a host or target system, you can use DSM/SCM to
manage the software configurations on that system. See Section 6, Managing
Software With DSM/SCM.

If you are unfamiliar with DSM/SCM, read Section 1, Introduction to DSM/SCM.
Confirm Required Software and Hardware
DSM/SCM has basic software and hardware requirements to install and manage
software on your host and target systems. For more information, see Hardware and
Software Requirements on page 3-1.
Changing the System Name and Number
When you receive a new NonStop S-series system or Integrity NonStop system,
change the system name and number to be unique before you use DSM/SCM.
Changing the system name or number after you use DSM/SCM takes substantially
longer to update because the databases grows during use.
After you rename a host system, you must initialize any targets that host manages to
update them for the new host name before performing any DSM/SCM tasks.
