Recovery. Analyze the error.

Cause. Because the tape is either assigned, selected, or in use, its status cannot be
altered.
Effect. The status does not change. The command does not execute.
Recovery. If the tape is selected or in use, you mus
t wait for it to be written to before
you can change its status. If it is assigned, you can execute a DELETE TAPEFILE
command for the files that are actually using the volume.

Cause. You are attempting to alter a version of a tape file to valid status, but a valid
version of that generation already exists.
Effect. This alter does not work.
Recovery. If you need to make this version of the generation valid, you must delete
the current valid version of that generation.

Cause. A problem prevents you from altering the entry for the tape.
Effect. The command does not execute.
Recovery. Analyze the error.

Cause. An attempt to reference a tape file entry has failed.
Effect. The tape file is not accessed.
**ERROR-608** Unable to alter the tape volume because the
current status must be BAD, RELEASED, or SCRATCH.
**ERROR-609** Unable to alter the tape file because a valid
version of that generation already exists.
**ERROR-610** Unable to alter the tape volume name1 of pool
name2 from the volume catalog name3 because of the following
