ALTER TAPEMOUNT Command
(Super Group Only)
tape set. In this case, this message displays after ALTER TAPEMOUNT was
used to select a replacement tape:
STATUS 2512 - TMF WILL RESTORE AN ALTERNATE SERIES
COPY FROM THE BEGINNING
To switch to the series copy tape set:
1. Issue REJECT TAPEMOUNT to get rid of the mount message for the
unavailable tape.
2. At the TACL prompt, enter a STOP command to terminate the TMF restore
utility. (You need to know the process ID of the restore utility to do this.)
3. Restart the TMF restore utility.
4. Immediately issue ALTER TAPEMOUNT to create a mount message for
the first tape in the series copy tape set.
If no copy of either type was made for the requested TMF tape set, an error
message displays on your home terminal when ALTER TAPEMOUNT receives no
tape information from the TMF system.

Scratch tapes are specified in a TAPECATALOG DEFINE with the VOLUME
attribute, either generically with SCRATCH or explicitly with one or more tape
names. When SCRATCH is used, you can mount the tape selected by DSM/TC,
which is specified in the mount message, or you can mount any available scratch
tape from the pool named in the DEFINE, regardless of the name given in the
message. An ALTER TAPEMOUNT command is not necessary for this case.
When scratch tapes are explicitly named in a TAPECATALOG DEFINE, they are
used in the order given in the VOLUME attribute. If a named tape is unavailable,
DSM/TC chooses the next available tape in the list or a scratch tape from the pool
named in the DEFINE. If a named tape is unavailable after a mount message is
issued, an ALTER TAPEMOUNT command can be used to generate a mount
message for a substitute tape. The replacement scratch tape is chosen from the
pool named in the DEFINE.
For more details on substituting scratch tapes, see the DSM/Tape Catalog User’s
Guide.
Output tape requested for TMF
If the TMF mount request is for a scratch tape for an online-dump or an audit-
dump, and you use ALTER TAPEMOUNT to request the next available scratch
tape, TMF decides which TMF tape to use and returns that name to ALTER
TAPEMOUNT for the mount message.
If no other TMF scratch tapes are available, an error message appears on your
home terminal, and the original mount request remains unchanged. To continue
processing:
