ALTER TAPEVOLUME Command
(Super Group Only)
When changing the status of several tapes, you can give multiple tape names
rather than entering ALTER TAPEVOLUME for each tape. A maximum of 100
names is permitted.
STATUS { BAD | RELEASED | SCRATCH }
is the new status to assign the tape in the entry.
If the current status of TAPEVOLUME is set to one of the values in the group
{ BAD | RELEASED | SCRATCH }, it can be changed only to one of the other
values in this same group.
BAD
The tape cannot be used as a scratch tape until its status is manually changed
to scratch in the catalog with a subsequent ALTER TAPEVOLUME command.
A bad status usually means the tape has a physical defect. With a physical
defect such as parity errors, the tape might be usable after being cleaned, at
which point its status is changed to scratch with ALTER TAPEVOLUME. If the
tape’s defect cannot be remedied, it is discarded, and its catalog entries are
removed from the volume catalog and pool with DELETE TAPEVOLUME.
RELEASED
All files on the tape have expired, but the tape is not to be used until its status
is manually changed to scratch in the catalog by ALTER TAPEVOLUME.
SCRATCH
The tape is ready for immediate use as a scratch tape.
STATUS { FULL | ASSIGNED }
is the new status to assign the tape in the entry.
If the current status of TAPEVOLUME is set to one of the values in the group
{ FULL | ASSIGNED }, it can be changed only to one of the other values in this
same group.
FULL
For append-capable pools and tape volumes of label type BACKUP, a
previously ASSIGNED tape volume that is changed to FULL is no longer
available for selection.
ASSIGNED
For append-capable pools and tape volumes of label type BACKUP, a
previously ASSIGNED tape volume that was changed to FULL can be returned
to ASSIGNED and then is once again available for selection for appended
sessions. This is not valid for tape volumes that have a status of FULL due to
end of volume processing.
