DELETE TAPEVOLUME Command

Considerations
Labeled tape to unlabeled tape
DELETE TAPELABEL turns a labeled tape into an unlabeled tape by writing two
tape marks at the beginning of the tape.
Successful completion of DELETE TAPELABEL
When DELETE TAPELABEL successfully ends, this message is sent to the output
file of the MEDIACOM process (usually your home terminal) for each tape name
listed in the command:
TAPE VOLUME tape-name UNLABELED
where tape-name is the name of the tape you specified.
Examples
In this example, a labeled scratch tape is changed to an unlabeled tape. Before it
can be changed, its catalog entry must be removed:
MC> DELETE TAPEVOLUME T11227
MC> DELETE TAPELABEL T11227
To change four labeled scratch tapes that are not cataloged, to unlabeled tapes:
MC> DELETE TAPELABEL (T11046, T03347, T00297, T00345),&
>>> PROMPT OFF,&
>>> TAPEDRIVE $TD006
DELETE TAPEVOLUME Command

DELETE TAPEVOLUME removes the volume catalog and pool entries for a tape with a
status of bad, released, or scratch. You must remove these entries when the tapes
they represent are discarded, sent off the premises for long-term storage, or moved to
a different pool or volume catalog.
Also use this command if a cataloged tape is going to be changed to an unlabeled
tape. Before the label can be removed, the volume catalog and pool entries of the tape
must be deleted.
If you need to delete an entry for an assigned tape (the tape contains an unexpired
file), first use DELETE TAPEFILE to remove the tape file entry and change the tape’s
