EXPIRE TAPEFILE Command (Super Group Only)
file catalog is not on your current default node. If only \node is specified, the
process is run for all file catalogs in the system search list of \node.
UPDATESTATS ( ON | OFF )
The default value for this parameter is ON. When this parameter is specified with
the value OFF, tape file expiration does not execute the UPDATE ALL STATISTICS
phase. If this parameter is omitted or specified with the value ON, the UPDATE
ALL STATISTICS phase of the EXPIRE TAPEFILE occurs as always.
Considerations
When to run EXPIRE TAPEFILE
You can run EXPIRE TAPEFILE any time. It does not affect normal DSM/TC use.
Returned messages from EXPIRE TAPEFILE
At the normal completion of EXPIRE TAPEFILE, two types of messages are
returned. One message tells you how many tape file entries were physically
deleted, and the other tells you how many volume catalog entries required a status
change because of the deleted tape file entries.
Interaction of manual clean-up with automatic clean-up
Whenever the clean-up process runs, it first checks the date of when it last ran. If
all file catalogs in the system search list were cleaned up less than 24 hours
before, the process does not run. The run date changes when the automatic run
occurs or when EXPIRE TAPEFILE is run for all file catalogs in the system search
list (EXPIRE TAPEFILE \node). The date does not change when EXPIRE
TAPEFILE is run for a subset of file catalogs.
Examples
These examples assume DSM/TC includes three nodes in the system search list,
\SKY, \STAR, and \SEA. Each node has multiple file catalogs. The automatic clean-up
process runs every day at 8:00 p.m. on all nodes for all file catalogs.
The default node in these examples is \SKY.
To run the clean-up process before 8:00 p.m. on FILE_CATALOG_SKY,:
MC> EXPIRE TAPEFILE FILE_CATALOG_SKY
Because only one file catalog is affected by the command, the run date does not
change. The clean-up process automatically runs again automatically at 8:00 p.m.
To run the clean-up process before 8:00 p.m. on all the file catalogs on \STAR (file
catalogs on that node end in STAR):
MC> EXPIRE TAPEFILE \STAR.*STAR
