Optional parameters such as COUNT, DENSITY, and LABELS are enclosed in
brackets. The TAPEDRIVE parameter is also enclosed in brackets, but it is followed by
an @ symbol.
The @ symbol specifies that the associated parameters are optional only if the system
or session values for the parameters have been established. The parameters are
mandatory if their values are not available from the MEDIADEFS defaults or previously
set as MEDIACOM session defaults.
In the preceding example, the ENV command shows that no session default value has
been set for the TAPEDRIVE parameter. Therefore, the TAPEDRIVE parameter is
mandatory when issuing a LABEL TAPEVOLUME command:
If the ENV command shows a valid tape drive name, TAPEDRIVE is an optional
parameter for the LABEL TAPEVOLUME command. This session default value is used
when a LABEL TAPEVOLUME command is issued and the TAPEDRIVE parameter is
not specified. To override the session default, specify a different tape drive while
issuing the LABEL TAPEVOLUME command.
Use the ALTER MEDIADEFS command to specify system defaults. (For more
information, see page 2-39.) You can also specify the session default values using the
FILECAT, POOL, TAPEDRIVE, and VOLCAT commands. (For more information, see
pages 2-94, 2-150, 2-174, and 2-176.) Use the MEDIACOM ENV command to display
the system and session defaults. (For more information, see page 2-89.)
HISTORY Command
MEDIACOM maintains a history buffer of the command lines you enter during an
interactive session. You can display a specified number of these lines with HISTORY.
This command also lets you clear the last or all commands from the history buffer.
