LABEL TAPEVOLUME Command
(Super Group Only)
SDLT
Only SDLT tapes are permitted.
OVERRIDE { ON | OFF }
determines to what extent the system search space is checked for a duplicate tape
name and whether to write over an existing tape label:
ON
catalogs the tape even if the entire system search space cannot be checked
for a duplicate tape name. However, what is available of the system search
space is checked. If a duplicate name is found, the tape is not cataloged. Be
cautious when using this option because there is a chance of cataloging a
duplicate name.
Also, any existing label on the tape is written over by LABEL TAPEVOLUME
with the new label.
OFF
catalogs the tape when no duplicate name is found in the entire system search
space. If the entire system search space is not available, LABEL
TAPEVOLUME does not execute.
If the tape already has a label, LABEL TAPEVOLUME does not execute even if
there is no duplicate tape name in the catalog. The default is OFF.
The OVERRIDE option must be used when labeling a new tape. Otherwise an
error is returned, and the operation does not complete.
PROMPT { ON | OFF }
determines when the tape drive begins checking (polling) that a tape is mounted:
ON
Polling does not begin until you manually start it. This message is sent to the
current default output file (usually your home terminal):
\node.$tape: not ready:
Press the RETURN key to start the polling process. When the tape is mounted,
LABEL TAPEVOLUME continues processing. The default is ON.
To end LABEL TAPEVOLUME without further processing, you can enter stop
rather than press the RETURN key.
Note. To choose a correct media type for your tapedrive, see Table 2-10 on page 2-181. If the
TYPE option is not specified, the default media type will be assigned (See Table 2-11
on
page 2-181).
